God spoke through 17 Old Testament Prophets, 5 of whom we call the Major Prophets (Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, Daniel) and 12 we call the Minor Prophets. The phrase Minor Prophets was supposedly coined by Augustine, but does not reflect any inferiority, rather they are just shorter and more succinct!

The Minor Prophets (just like the Major Prophets), speak God’s Word to a wayward people of God during the most tumultuous time in Israel’s history. They warn people of the impending judgement of God because of their covenant disloyalty, they call people to repentance and a higher social ethic, as well as comforting God’s people with the message of hope and restoration.
