In Matthew 5-7, Jesus amazes his followers as he speaks as one with authority. In Matthew 8, Jesus demonstrates his authority extends beyond big talk – he has authority over creation. In this passage, Jesus’ authority and compassion combine, and give us great hope for the healing we greatly need – for our physical afflictions, and sin – the disease of our soul.
