The chapters of Matthew 13-20 contain many of the parables that Jesus told about what the Kingdom of Heaven would be like. The parables of the soils, the weeds, the mustard seed, the pearl of great price etc. all expand our vision and understanding of the Kingdom of Heaven. These chapters also help us sit at the feet of Jesus as he engages with a plethora of different people – from Pharisees, Sadducees and teachers of the law, to people who are sick and suffering and outcasts in society. Jesus lifts the veil to his identity as the long-awaited Messiah, but shakes the disciples understanding by explaining that the Messiah has to suffer, be crucified and on the third day rise again.
