James is a very practical letter, written from a pastor concerned to see his people live out their Christian faith. He doesn’t want them to be double minded, having one foot in the world, and the other foot in the kingdom. The over-riding theme is one of ‘living out your faith, in word and deed. In an increasingly ‘godless world’ we are urged to give ourselves ‘wholly to the Lord’ and not to wander.
